Day 339… My last day in Indonesia. .. starting early I get to see a little more of the city. Jakarta has some interesting museums, such as the Wayang (puppetry) and Vicarage Dharma Temple. The National Monument, Monas dedicated to the spirit of the Indonesian people.
I am very happy with my excursion to the puppet museum, i could not have timed it better. The owner is on hand having finished teaching for the day to give me a private tour, workshop and show! Brilliant!
With more time and planning, i could have stayed closer to the city centre and taken in Sunda Kelapa port, where the Dutch first landed, temple-filled Chinatown and the old town of Batavia. Visited a Chinese Mansion “Chandra Naya” to gain an insight into the Peranakan architecture. Then explore the religious side of the city at Cathedral Church and Istiqlal Mosque, the largest in South East Asia. However… I’ve seen Bali and Komodo Island… so I’m happy.
