Day 338… Today i decide to do a day trip to Komodo… after breakfast, i start early and fly over to the island, then i proceed to walk around 2km to Banunggulung to spot the Dragons. Komodo Dragons, the largest lizard in the world, grow up to 3 metres in length, and weigh up to 65kg. It is estimated that there are around 2,000 dragons on the island, as well as other wildlife such as wild boar, deer and buffalo. And… may i say… komodo dragons are some of the eeriest animals i have ever encountered… the slow cunning of a crocodile and then sudden speed… but added to a more upright appearance. Don’t be mistaken – the Komodo may look large and cumbersome, but they can run at up to 18kmh. The buggers can also swim, and, when short of food, these angry little dinosaurs will resort to eating their young! Filled with deadly toxic saliva and venom (I’m surprised they arent Australian), these fascinating creatures are not the kind of animal you want to make friends with… or enemies.
