Day 322… Fish River Canyon
Heading further south in the desert lands of Namibia, drive towards Fish River Canyon (200 km, approx 3-4 hrs) via a little tiny country town called Bethanie. It has 4 little churches and a few shops and not much else, quite the quaint little village. Here i tally on a few more karma points when a poorer dude points at my pineapple Fanta since he cant afford one, so after only 2 sips i just hand it over and head off. Then some dark skinned african guys in a 4×4 pull up to me to ask directions… which is odd. I seem to blend quite well it seems… even in this place! Then we continue to good old Fish River Canyon, passing some mountain (hartemans) zebras… haven’t seen any wildlife for a little while now. At 500 metres deep and over 160 km long, Fish River Canyon is the 2nd largest canyon in the world after America’s Grand. There are remarkable photographic opportunities here as our awesome crew prepare crispbread hordeurves to go with a sunset beer. Also here i get to meet up yet again with the sandboarding gang and chat with Canadian Emily and Brisbanian Jeanine again… very cool gals, as we all watch the sun dip beneath the twinkling desert horizon.
