Day 291 Cairo, PART 2
Travel from Hurghada to Cairo (approx 9 hrs). As we travel through the desert, we all keep passing entire towns worth of abandoned resorts and housing complexes. Sprawling streets and roads worth of blocks of units and officeblocks that look incomplete. .. hollow… empty… dead. It’s quite a confronting shame that the tourist industry has been hit so terribly hard by terrorism… in a bid to damage the west, they have ruined the people who live closer to home. And that is certainly not to say this area of the world sides with creatures like ISIS… indeed I would suggest that they have even more reason to detest them as they have destroyed the local economy by seeding paranoia overseas. Finding the gold of truth and reason among the gravel of uncertainty, the sand of unreason  and the little whiskery multi-legged swimming things of paranoid superstition so that people return to the area as tourists will be a long hard road. That said… a pit stop for lunch saw me eat the single most tastiest meal I’ve had for a while… a hot dog pizza. One of my favourites back home when I can be arsed cooking properly. Nice folks serving too.
Now seeing as today is simply a massive road trip, when we finally pull into Cairo there are no activities planned. So we make our own. After a nice dinner, we shoot a few darts playing games ‘501’ and… even though it’s been years since i played… happy to report it managed to come 1st… by 3 points at the top 4… 100s away from the bottom 4. Yay me!
