Days 281,282 Cairo, PART 1
Day 281… Next day we rise and take a small domestic flight into Cairo. A wonderfully chaotic and  colourful city, Cairo’s dazzling array of museums, mosques and markets are a fascinating mixture of modern city and ancient wonders. There are plenty of things to see and do with free time in Cairo. Head out to explore the markets or catch the metro into the oldest part of the city, the Coptic Christian sector – with its narrow cobbled streets and ancient churches, it’s a haven of peace and quiet. As I only have a half day here, it’s off to do the Mosque run to The Citadel (past Cairo Tower), the Coptic Museum and Cairo’s only remaining Synagogue. First up we go to checkmout the beautiful Mosque of Mohammed Ali (no… not the boxer), then the amazing Hanging Church with its roof designed like a upside down Noahs Ark, then the spectacular Church of St. George before finally seeing the Synagogue of Ben Azra and the Mosque of Amr ibn Alass, the oldest mosque in Africa built way back in 642a.d!
Then at night, this is the only time my tour joins have ever overlapped… so its a final dinner with folks leaving and a welcome dinner with the newbies at same time!
