Day 258… The morning was supposed to start with a 1 hour horse ride through the foothills of dusty Pushkar. But after the guy was 25 mins late to his own house… then just sat and chatted (boringly) for an hour… and told us his 6 horses were now only 2 (meaning we couldn’t all go all the the same time) AND rose his price by 40%… I was done. Zark that! I have better things to do. So I find a reputable leatherwork error recommended by our guide and buy a cool as cool Indianna Jones-esque backpack, job done. Then we return for the highlight of our visit to Pushkar… a camel safari out into the local desert area. For those who don’t want to ride a camel, there’s a camel cart option. I only had to do this for the last 30 mins back… reasons forthcoming.
The ride was a gentle, serene pad through the streets and desert sands… with only 1 hairy moment for me as my juvenile camel jumps sideways and nearly throws me off. Literally anyone else would be done for or scared out of thier wits. But I held on and we continued without issue. Then we stopped for a mini camp and a Masala chai tea cooked for us by our desert nomad guides, served to us as we lounged in the setting sun on a patterned carpet. Then we rode back. Then halfway the group saw how skittish my animal was and were moved ahead. THEN my camel seriously freaked the zark out and jumped, skipped, stamped and tried to buck me off. The guide was screaming at the guys to stop the beast and get me the hell outta dodge. Which I did, the camel reluctantly getting down and the handler wrestled the irate bugger all the way home. I rode the camel cart, then walked by A.K and chatted before we got back, chilled for and bit and caught up on journals and blogs and videos, extremely we leave in the chill night air for our night home stay meal thing, which was great! Wonderful food…. wonderful people… wonderful time. Then back to hotel.
