Days 226, 227… Nha Trang/Overnight Train
We arrive in Nha Trang at approx. 5am and transfer bleary eyed to my hotel. Once referred to as the ‘Cannes of the Orient’, Nha Trang’s sandy palm-lined beach and island-dotted bay still make an idyllic picture, and a cosmopolitan feel prevails in the town itself as we stop by a beach bar for brekky. After we eventually check in, we spend the day soaking up the sun as we jump a boat to explore the island of Niu with its local markets and check out the ancient Cham Towers nearby. While on the island we nave an amazing local guide by the name of ‘Lambchop’ who leads us through the township and we visit a day care centre where i buy the kiddies some drink to supplement thier healthy, yet simple diet. After we jump in a basket boat to head out and do some great snorkelling before returning to a fantastic restaurant called MORNING GLORY for dinner.
Day 227… Thank all that is holy… no alarms and a late start with an excellent self-sought brekky… then we board our private bus to check out the pagodas and temples of the area before getting ready to get down and get dirty… at a mud baths! What a blast… it is bizarre and brilliantly hilarious fun getting covered in mud, then blasted off with a mineral shower and a mineral bath soak before jumping g into some man made waterfalls and a luxurious heated pool! Aahhhh.. also just what I needed to exfoliate off all this ridiculous dead skin peeling off my sunburn… seriously I look like a bloody leper! Oh… Ps… this neck of the world (Cambodia and Vietnam) seem to be festooned with tiny geckos… the little blighters are everywhere! After we clean up, we board another overnight train bound for Danang (approx. 8 hours) late evening on Day 5.
